Silent Sidelines Reminder - MAY 21 and 22, 2022

(The below message is a modification of Andrea Duffy's May '02 Presidents Message.)

A mother was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her teenage son. Suddenly the boy bursts into the kitchen.

"Careful! Careful! Put in some more butter! Oh my goodness! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful!... CAREFUL! I said CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you crazy? Have you lost your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!"

The mother stared at him. "What's wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?"

The son calmly replied, "I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm trying to play soccer."

The goals of Silent Sidelines Weekend are to: 

1. Develop our players to make decisions on the field without sideline intervention;
2. Improve the players' communication on the field by reducing the outside noise level; and
3. Support our youth referees by eliminating dissension from the sidelines. 

The guidelines are simple:

1. Coaches are permitted to give players direction from the sidelines. 
2. Spectators shall not make any comments to players, coaches or referees, but are permitted to applaud.

- Saturday, 5/21 11am: (H) Friendly VS. West Hartford.  Riverfront 3.  Wear gray (pack blue).  Arrive by 10:30am for warm-up. Bring shin guards, water, ball.

- Sunday, 5/22 BYE week - no game scheduled.

Housekeeping:

1. Hartwell Travel Tryouts the week of 5/30 for U9 and U10. Be sure to register.
2. Thank you Vincent’s parents for refreshing and yummy post-game snacks. 
3. Thank you again Finnegan’s dad for another Citizen game write up.  Dragons Families - let’s give Tyler Butts a break, please sign up for a game write up.
4. End of Season Party at Riverfront following our final season game on 6/5.

Great effort and teamwork against East Hampton in back to back games this Mother's Day weekend. 

Reminders for the week of 5/9/22:

- Tues/Weds 5:00pm-6:30pm - Practice, Riverfront 3

- Saturday, 5/14 9:00am-10:30am: 4v4 Scrimmage. Visitors: Granby.  Wear gray (pack blue).  Bring shin guards, water, ball.

- Sunday, 5/15 4:30pm (A) League game VS. Windsor Locks. Veteran’s Memorial Park. 118 Southwest Ave., Windsor Locks.  Arrive by 4:00pm for warm-up.  Wear blue (pack gray).  Bring shin guards, water, ball.
