SECOND, (wait for the Blue Sombrero Activation email) once you complete the above registration, you must register again on our NEW Stack Sports/Blue Sombrero website at This second registration will ensure we comply with the background check requirement and allows us to submit the roster to our state association, CJSA. Even if you know you have a cleared background check, we still need you to register again for this season for roster purposes.

  1. Mandatory On-Line Background Check: All volunteers 18 years of age or older must complete a mandatory on-line background check.  The on-line background check takes 2 to 3 minutes to complete and the background clearance is good for 3 years.  Even if you have already completed in the last 3 years, CJSA has transitioned to a new background check reviewer which is a bit more in depth.    To complete the background check, please register as a coach on our new website (link below), but note the following requirements.
    1. LEGAL NAME.  Please enter your full, complete, and LEGAL name.  No nicknames or abbreviations.  This will ensure a smooth review without delays.
    2. DOB: CJSA (Connecticut Junior Soccer Association) and GHSC (Glastonbury Hartwell Soccer Club) require that all adult volunteers provide their date of birth as part of the volunteer registration.
    3. Social Security Number.  The new background check process requires that the user enter in their social security number.   This number is not stored in Stack Sports database, Blue Sombrero's database, or in Glastonbury Hartwell's database.  The number is immediately encrypted and sent to the background check service provider.

Lastly,  all coaches will be required to have completed CDC Concussion and SAFESPORT training. With a goal of safeguarding our players, CJSA is not unique in requiring all adults interfacing with youth to complete this mandatory training, you may have already been required to complete with other youth sports or town programs. If you have already taken the training, you do not need to take again.

Your actions can help create a safe environment for young athletes so that they can stay healthy, active, and thrive - both on and off the playing field.

Both CDC and SAFESPORT provide certificates of completion on successful which will be needed to be confirmed as a coach. It is important to FOLLOW THE SAFESPORT INSTRUCTIONS carefully. In order to receive full credit for completing the course and transferring the credits, you must follow the instructions on our website at the link below.

The online SAFESPORTS sessions take 1.5 hours and the CDC session about 30-40 minutes. It is a good idea to get a jump start on these trainings and certifications before the Fall season approaches.
